1) What is Archie?

Archie is a program which lets you search for specific software programs and
other files that are available via Anonymous FTP on The Internet. Archie is
usually available on most Unix systems and on various and sundry other
systems. In general, to use archie, you type ARCHIE filename where "filename"
is the name of the thing you're looking for. For example, to find a source
for the PKZip program, you can type ARCHIE PKZIP.

To find out if your system has archie, you should speak with the person who
runs your system. Also, try looking at the archie help files. If your system
does not have an archie client (program) available on it, you can telnet to
archie.ans.net. Login as archie and follow the instructions.
