DELIVERING A NEW GENERATION OF INTERACTIVE WEB PAGES

Microsoft Internet Studio (formerly code named "Blackbird") is the easy way to create, publish, and manage a new generation of interactive pages for the World Wide Web. Internet Studio lets you easily create multimedia Web sites that incorporate stylized hypertext documents, rich graphics, real-time sound, and animations. Internet Studio's drag and drop layout environment eliminates the need for any programming or HTML coding. Internet Studio also allows you to work with familiar tools, and incorporate content from any OLE enabled application such as Microsoft Office and hundreds of other third party applications.

Internet Studio allows content providers to easily create sophisticated multimedia pages that convey a highly branded look and feel.

TOOLS TO EMPOWER THE INDEPENDENT CONTENT PROVIDER

The lack of sophisticated tools for online designers and publishers has presented significant hurdles for Internet content providers. Internet Studio meets the needs of content providers and their consumers by offering the following advantages over existing online design environments:
Quality
Internet Studio provides a full frame-based layout environment, advanced text layout features, transparency effects, and streaming WAV and MIDI sound effects.

Today, it is extremely difficult to create truly compelling applications and services with rich, interactive multimedia features, while at the same time delivering these applications and services over low-bandwidth connections. Internet Studio overcomes these limitations by removing existing design constraints and allowing content providers to easily deploy and maintain a new generation of interactive multimedia Web sites.

Control
Existing Internet publishing tools do not provide content providers with the design control necessary to establish a highly branded online presence. Internet Studio returns control to the content provider and enables them to fully develop their brand, customer and advertiser relations, and business models. Designers can make their branded products the focus of customer interactions, so much so that customers often may not be aware that they are working "online."

Production Efficiency and Dynamic Content
The ongoing cost of maintaining online content can be prohibitive. Internet Studio is specifically designed to support existing business processes and standard information interchange formats. Internet Studio provides an easy to use, drag and drop layout environment for creating interactive sites. No programming or HTML coding is required. Internet Studio also separates the design of an interactive page from the content behind the design. Content providers can thus create multimedia applications using an automated production process, keeping their content constantly refreshed via continual updates. Finally, Internet Studio is designed to work with third party tools, preserving an organization's investment in existing content authoring software.

INTERNET STUDIO FEATURES

Responsive, dynamic multimedia pages that take full advantage of Windows 95 based PCs. Internet Studio sites are comprised of full featured, interactive multimedia pages, not just static hypertext documents. Graphics, animations, sound, and sophisticated text layout capabilities enable content providers to create compelling and highly branded content for their users.
Ease of use.
A drag and drop layout environment allows designers to create rich multimedia titles easily, with no programming or HTML coding required. An integrated project editor allows the designer to easily manage pages and their changing content.
Frame-based layout environment.
Internet Studio provides a sophisticated frame-based layout environment that gives the content provider complete control over the look and feel of their Web pages. Arbitrary object placement, object layering, and advanced transparency effects combine to enable designers to create state of the art multimedia Web sites.
"One button" publishing.
"One button" publishing makes publishing site updates easy. Internet Studio separates the design of the page from the content within the page, so that content providers can easily publish sites with constantly refreshed, ever changing information.
Works with existing tools.
Content from any OLE enabled application can be included in an Internet Studio page and published online. Internet Studio can thus be used in conjunction with hundreds of existing applications, without any data conversion necessary.
Integrates with other Internet resources.
Internet Studio supports seamless links to other services and related information. Designers can integrate existing HTML Web pages, e-mail, eforms, file transfers, and other Internet resources.
Home Delivery.
Home Delivery allows users to schedule delivery of any Internet Studio site directly to their desktop, and view the site at their convenience off-line. Users do not need to spend time finding and downloading their favorite pages each day.
Production Automation.
Through integrated OLE Automation support, all aspects of the publishing and design processes can be automated using tools such as the Microsoft Visual Basic® programming system.
Open Extensibility.
Internet Studio's extensible OLE architecture allows third parties to create and add their own components and advanced functionality to Internet Studio pages. This gives content providers the ability to further differentiate their sites and add unique value for their users.

The open authoring environment also allows third party tools to be seamlessly integrated into the Internet Studio system. For example, Adobe has announced that they will offer an AcrobatTM control that allows Acrobat PDF documents to be included in Internet Studio pages. In addition, Calagari has announced an integrated Internet Studio TrueSpace editor that enables designers to easily create 3-D virtual worlds. The Internet Studio 3-D VR system can import and export Virtual Reality and Modeling Language (VRML). Finally, Macromedia has demonstrated an Internet Studio viewer and plug-in editor for Macromedia Director(r) (Shockwave) movies.

Support for Internet Standards.
Internet Studio supports existing Internet standards such as HTML and HTTP, so that it can be used in conjunction with standard Web browsers, Web servers, and third party content authoring tools. Pages developed using Internet Studio can be viewed on any platform by standard HTML browsers.
