There has been a tremendous amount of interest and excitement around the Microsoft Internet Information Server Beta! Within the first 48 hours of the announcement of this beta, we have well surpassed the original 1000 betas we had planned to send out. Unfortunately, we must limit the number of betas we distribute at this time to 1,000.

The good news is that in light of this exceptional demand to evaluate and try the Microsoft Internet Information Server, we plan to make available an evaluation version of Internet Information Server to those who did not get their name into the first 1000 when final product ships. This will NOT be a beta version, but an evaluation copy of the final product which we plan to ship in the first quarter of 1996, making the evaluation copy available in the first quarter of 1996 as well. We encourage you to request a copy of this evaluation version today. We will notify you directly when it is available (expected in early 1996). By requesting the evaluation version, you also will have the opportunity to subscribe to our electronic newsletters which will include information on all of Microsoft's Server products, including the Internet Information Server.

Enrollment into this evaluation program requires you to access an Internet Information Server running the built-in Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for secure Internet transactions. By enrolling in the upcoming evaluation program you are helping us test this product! To get to the site to enroll, you must have a browser that supports SSL, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0 or a browser that supports SSL. Beware, some corporate firewalls or gateway services will not allow you to access secured sites and you will likely get an unfriendly error when you try to get to this secured site. If you are having problems, try a the non-secure site we've set up.

We appreciate the interest and enthusiasm around Microsoft Internet Information Server and we look forward to making evaluation copies available to you as soon as possible.

Thanks-
Microsoft's Internet Information Server Team
