Bertramka

At the end of Mozartova ulice (Mozart Street), surrounded by the grey apartment buildings of the Prague quarter Smíchov, stands the former country house Bertramka. Presently it is the museum of the musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The residential house is a simple, but charming building and dates from about the year 1700. Count Clam bought the farm estate, at that time surrounded by vineyards, for the excellent singer Josefina Dusek in the year 1784. Josefina lived here with her husband, the pianist, composer and pedagogue Frantisek Xaver Dusek. The singer Josefina met Mozart at concert tours and he became a welcome guest at Bertramka during his stays in Prague.

The rooms of Bertramka hold the memories of Mozart: the piano on which he played, the grand piano, sheet music, pictures and even a lock of his hair. In the spirit of this musical giant, Bertramka is the venue for regular concerts.
