Czech Cubist architecture

The typical elements of Czech Cubist Architecture - oblique lines and surfaces, narrowing and widening of bars, the breaking up of surfaces in non-rightangular shapes, created an extremely dynamic effect. And, more than that, this kind of architecture fitted right into the spectrum of historcal buildings.

Other examples of history, as for instance cellar vaults, played an essential part in the initial period of Czech Cubist Architecture. Its almost consistent symmetry could not be a copy of the unsymmetrical composition of Cubist pictures and sculptures, but it is sympathetic with the developed sense for shapeliness. Its symmetry demonstrates its relationship with historical architecture.
